RICHMOND, VA – Virginia House of Delegates Speaker William J. Howell (R-Stafford) announced Monday that he will appoint Delegate Tim Hugo to the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority to replace retiring Delegate Tom Rust.

“The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority plays an important role in how Virginia makes its long-term transportation decisions,” said Speaker Howell. “Tim has long been a vocal leader on transportation, not just in Northern Virginia but throughout the Commonwealth. He has advocated for reforms and solutions that protect taxpayers, improve accountability and make the lives of Virginians better. His experience, understanding and leadership make him a great fit for this position. Tim often says that transportation is about jobs and quality of life, and he’s right.  The NVTA will make key decisions in the next several years that will have a lasting impact on Northern Virginia, both in terms of its economic potential and the quality of life for its citizens. I am confident that Tim’s insight and expertise will contribute a great deal to that process and I look forward to formally appointing him at the start of the 2016 General Assembly session.”

Speaking about the appointment Delegate Hugo said, “I want to thank Speaker Howell for my appointment to the NVTA. When I talk with constituents across my district, transportation is always near the top of their concerns. I was proud to work with Speaker Howell on HB2 to ensure that transportation projects are prioritized so that taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently. It is critical that we prioritize projects that will alleviate the most congestion, so Moms and Dads spend more time with their families and less time stuck in traffic. I look forward to doing just that on NVTA.”
