House Republican Leader Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah, issued the following statement:

“There are times when words are wholly inadequate. Such is this moment of grief and remembrance. One year ago, a dozen lives were taken from us in a moment of inexplicable anger and violence. Families were shattered, as too many realized they had said their final goodbyes unknowingly.

“Today, we pause to remember those who were taken from us, and those who were left behind. Their light in this world can never be replaced, but it can be treasured and held close to our hearts. In this moment of grief, we renew our promise to those who suffered this loss, and to the community that they call home: you are not alone in your grief, and your Commonwealth walks with you on the long road to healing.

“We will never forget. We will always remember.”
