House Republican Leader Todd Gilbert issued the following statement:
“The House Republican Caucus was deeply grieved to learn of the passing of our former colleague, Del. Barbara Stafford.
“Barbara’s time in the General Assembly was short, but her service to the people of this Commonwealth was not. With the untimely passing of her husband Del. Jeff Stafford, Barbara stepped forward to serve the remainder of his term.
“While she left the General Assembly soon after, she continued to work for the people of her community with service on the Pearisburg Town Council, eventually serving as Mayor. Later, she moved to Federal service, working to solve problems for the constituents of Rep. Morgan Griffith.
“Barbara had the heart of a servant, and we will all miss her warmth and loving nature terribly. She was a loving friend to all, and cared deeply about Southwest Virginia and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.”
