House Republican Leader Todd Gilbert issued the following statement:
“Tonight, Virginians saw the choice that is before them as they go to the polls. They can choose a recycled, failed politician with a recycled agenda that will lead to a $5,400 tax increase on Virginia families, or they can choose a new kind of leader, a businessman with a plan to cut costs for families and keep Virginians safe.
“The choice is clear: Glenn Youngkin.
“Tonight, Glenn laid out a common-sense vision for Virginia’s future: lower taxes, safe streets, and a government that actually works for Virginians. He will cut costs for families by eliminating the grocery tax and invest in our schools.
“On the other hand, Terry McAuliffe couldn’t defend his failed record. Worse, he said that parents should have no say in what their children are taught in school. If we’ve learned anything over the last two years, it’s that we need parental involvement in education. House Democrats should immediately denounce McAuliffe’s unconscionable position.”
“Together with Glenn Youngkin, Republicans will take back the House of Delegates and go back to work for Virginians. We look forward to working with Glenn Youngkin, the winner of tonight’s debate, and we will make Virginians winners again, too.”
