House Speaker Todd Gilbert issued the following statement:
“Our Commonwealth is a lesser place today. Early Sunday morning, our former colleague Jack Reid passed from this life, surrounded by his friends and family.
“While our time here overlapped by just a few years, I came to know Jack Reid as a giant of this body. He believed what he believed, and had no qualms about standing up for those beliefs, even if it meant standing alone. And on the odd occasion he made a mistake, he didn’t shy away from owning up to it.
“We could spend hours talking about Jack Reid’s time here in the General Assembly, but those who knew Jack well knew that his real legacy — the one into which he poured his heart and soul — was his family. His wife Judi was the love of his life, having met her when they were both just 16. They never looked back. His remarkable children, John and Lisa, carry on his legacy in their own lives.
“We will dearly miss our friend Jack. I ask that all Virginians join me in remembering this remarkable public servant, and in holding his family in our thoughts and prayers.”
